Shinhwa’s Kim Dongwan has been cast in the upcoming short film ‘Life Is But A Dream’ (working title).
‘Life Is But A Dream’ comes from director Jo Sung Kyu (also known as David Cho), who also directed ‘Santa Barbara’ starring Lee Sang Yoon and Yoon Jin Seo. Kim Dongwan plays a character whose dream is to sing but unable to realise his dreams, he takes on the job as a rock festival staff member. The short film is slated for release in the summer of 2015 and also features Choi Phillip and Shin Ji Hoon.
This marks Kim Dongwan’s return to movies 2 years after he starred in the blockbuster ‘Deranged’. An industry rep stated, “Kim Dongwan has always been very keen on working on films, and he also has the talent for it. The short film is a new foray and a new challenge for him.”
“As Kim Dongwan’s not contracted to any management agency at the moment, it seems that he has personally selected this project.” Kim Dongwan is scheduled to start filming during this summer’s rock festival season.
Kim Dongwan has also confirmed his participation in the 10th anniversary run of the musical ‘Hedwig’, and will show his acting abilities in the role of the transgender rocker in performances starting from mid-August onwards. After successfully concluding Shinhwa’s 16th anniversary concert in March, Kim Dongwan left for a short language study course in Canada. His stint in the 2011 run of ‘Hedwig’ marked the beginning of his musical career, and with the added significance of the musical celebrating its 10th anniversary, he decided to return for his second run.
Kim Dongwan has amassed considerable acting credits under his belt, including MBC’s ‘The Peak’, the film ‘Deranged’, KBS dailiy drama ‘Cheer Up Mister Kim’, the musicals ‘Hedwig’ and ‘Le Passe-muraille’. Now with the confirmation of his second run of ‘Hedwig’ and ‘Life Is But A Dream’, Kim Dongwan is set to officially return to his entertainment activities. He will also join his fellow Shinhwa members for their comeback set for January 2015.
